Ask IOC advance questions for November 12th event

Post by barnhill »

Hi Everyone!

Our IOC team is excited to host the first "Ask IOC" event Thursday, November 12th at 1:00pm Eastern. Please reply to this thread with your questions. The person who submits our favorite question will win an exciting prize!! You must be present at the Ask IOC meeting on November 12th to win your prize.

Ask IOC will be an experimental event with a mix of IOC answering some questions submitted in advance and brown bag type discussion. The deadline to submit questions is Wednesday November 11th at 12:00 EDT. We hope to make this event recurrent. Consider it an exchange of tips and tricks. For instance, a demo on how to do Mass Upload, or "did you know you can do x to accomplish y?" We will also leave time for people to interact and exchange workaround solutions.

Best regards,
Jodi
Thank you,
Jodi

A few questions:

1) In your experience seeing business processes at many different institutions (and institutional types), what are two best practices you would highlight that are perhaps not super obvious, and what is a common pitfall you have observed?

2) Have you come up with any clever processes for ensuring other sponsored students remain registered full-time, since the alerts do not trigger for that population?

3) What is, in your opinion, the best model for a mid-sized international office to manage a program like IOM? A singular person who focuses on tech stuff? Division of labor across the team for cross-training? Someone who does advising involved or does that not matter? Just curious on what you have learned in observing many schools?

4) Jodi, if you had to pick a favorite variety of chicken, what would it be and why?

Hi Emma!

So great to hear from you. These are amazing questions. And, for being the first person to post, you win a prize! It's going to be a creative prize... something like the jewelry made out of squirrel bones. So, get ready! I'm working on ideas this weekend for your prize!! And, your name is also in the hat for the best question. Let the games begin!

Warm regards,
Jodi

Does anyone have materials or suggestions for training a new staff member to use batching software like Terra Dotta or Sunapsis. (especially Terra Dotta).

Thank you!

Questions!!

A) What are best practices around documentation of business processes? How should we use the built-in Sunapsis documentation fields? How detailed should documentation be?

B) Favorite Doctor? Bond? Batman? Captain of the Enterprise?

C) What are some creative ways to multiply the impact of the SEVIS coordinator? They are great individual contributors; how can they be leaders, educators, organizers, and advocates from their position?

D) What does every International Office leader need to know about supervising SEVIS coordinators that they might not know? How can they support and resource this role?

E) What is the outlook for the field in the next five years? What opportunities or challenges should we be preparing for as international office software users?
